    Association Agreement Svenska

We conclude that the agreement will lead to several improvements and simplifications for companies wishing to trade with Mercosur countries. The agreement also offers more opportunities for cooperation and dialogue in areas where the EU and Mercosur are far apart, such as animal welfare and the use of antibiotics, which could have positive long-term effects. The EU trade agreement with The Mercosur countries, Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay, is an association agreement of which trade is a part. The National Board of Trade reviewed the agreement in a number of areas, sectors and commodities and analyzed the impact the agreement may have. Emma Svenborg, who coordinated the paper, says more. A European Union Association Agreement (A.A.) is a treaty between the European Union (EU), its member states and a non-EU country, which establishes a framework for cooperation between them. Among the areas that often fall under these agreements is the development of political, commercial, social, cultural and security relations. The legal basis for the conclusion of association agreements is provided by Article 217 of the Treaty ON THE EUROPEAN Union (Article 310 and 238 TEC). The agreement will result in reduced import and export tariffs, although in some cases it will take a long time. It also offers several concrete benefits that will save time and resources for companies wishing to trade with Mercosur countries; among other things, trade procedures will be simplified. Better access to information on existing rules and procedures will also facilitate trade, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises wishing to do business with Mercosur countries. Many authorities believe that the level of ambition is not high enough and that, in some cases, there are not enough binding provisions in their areas of expertise. Some economic organisations note the competitive advantages the agreement will offer businesses and point out that it is now easier for the EU and Mercosur to cooperate on important sustainability issues.

However, this agreement is not as broad as the EU`s recently launched free trade agreement with Japan and Canada. It would have been desirable for the parties to have agreed on more binding agreements and more ambitious commitments. The Mediterranean countries (Algeria, Morocco, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, the Palestinian Authority, Syria, Tunisia) and the Eastern European countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan and Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine, but without Russia, which insists on the creation of four COMMON EU-Russia areas) fall under the EPI. Seven Mediterranean countries have established a “Euro-Mediterranean Association Agreement” (EMAA) with the EU, while Palestine has an interim EMAA agreement. [4] Syria signed an EMAA in 2008, but the signing was postponed sine die.
